Luigi Castiglioni
Luigi Castiglioni is a master book artist whose work stands at the intersection of heritage and contemporary expression. As Founder and Maître d’Œuvre of Castiglioni Codex, he brings more than three decades of mastery in fine binding and editorial craftsmanship to each creation. Rooted in the highest tradition of French fine bookbinding and shaped by Italian artistry, Castiglioni transforms the book into an object of rare cultural and aesthetic significance. Each work is conceived as a singular piece, where structure, material, typography, and narrative converge into a unified artistic statement. As head of the Legatoria Anonima Amanvensis in Rimini and leader of the Castiglioni family of craftsmen, he represents a lineage devoted to excellence in the arts of the book. In 2020, he was awarded the prestigious title of Master of Arts and Crafts by the Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte, a distinction reserved for Italy’s most exceptional artisans. In 2021, he was selected for the Homo Faber Guide, the international reference curated by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship, recognizing masters who shape the future of fine craftsmanship. His works are exhibited and auctioned internationally at distinguished venues including Artcurial in Paris and Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York. Castiglioni has collaborated with leading figures across disciplines, from visual arts to music, including Cristina Iglesias, Renzo Piano, and Daniel Barenboim. The late Umberto Eco once described him as “the greatest forger I ever met”, a tribute to Castiglioni’s unparalleled ability to inhabit, reinterpret, and elevate the language of the book
